Wood Shutters FAQs
Can wood shutters be motorized?
No. Our wood shutters cannot be motorized but our Palm Beach™ Polysatin™ Shutters can be motorized and are compatible with PowerView® Automation. They can be operated hands-free, with the push of a button or the sound of your voice. The exclusive override feature also allows for manual operation; simply move the louvers by hand without worrying about damaging the motor.
Our wood shutters can be operated by our HiddenTilt™ system (louver tilt without tilt bar), front tilt bar, bi-fold track, bypass track (sliding shutter panels), or standard hinged panels.
Can I hang draperies over wood shutters?
Yes! Pairing custom draperies with interior shutters creates a beautiful, elegant look with added functionality. Your Drapery Street designer can help you design a layered look you'll love.
Are your shutters wood or faux wood?
We offer both wood and faux wood shutters.
Heritance® Hardwood Shutters are made from rapidly renewable, 100% genuine basswood or poplar hardwood. For every Heritance shutter purchased, Hunter Douglas makes a donation to the Arbor Day Foundation to support its efforts to plan and preserve trees and the rainforest.
NewStyle Hybrid Shutters combine the natural style of genuine wood with the durability of advanced, man-made materials.
Palm Beach™ Polysatin™ Shutters are made with durable, UV-resistant Polysatin™ material that prevents warping, cracking, fading, chipping and peeling even when exposed to intense sunlight and moisture.
Your Drapery Street designer will help you choose the material that is best for your needs and your budget.
Can shutters be used on doors?
Yes. For smooth operation, we recommend the Bypass Track system that lets your shutter panels slide past each other without interruption, opening in the same direction as your patio door for ease of use. We can also do French door cutouts on French doors so you can access the handle.
What kinds of specialty-shaped windows can wood shutters be used on?
Hunter Douglas wood shutters can be customized to fit all kinds of specialty-shaped windows including arches, angles, hexagons, octagons, bay and corner windows, patio and sliding glass doors, large windows, French doors, and cut outs.
What tilt options are available on your shutters?
We offer several tilt options!
For minimalist design appeal and functionality, the TruView™ Rear Tilt system lets you open and close your shutters by simply tilting one louver to the desired position, and the rest will follow.
Revel in unobstructed views with the HiddenTilt™ operating system. Its invisible secret? A gear system is enclosed inside the panel.
As simple as it gets— Front Tilt Bar opens and closes shutters tightly, thanks to a single bar attached to the front of the shutters that allows for easy operation.
What are SoftClose™ Louvers?
Similar to a feature found in high-end cabinet doors and drawers, the new SoftClose system allows louvers to close gently and automatically after reaching a predetermined angle. This proprietary design eliminates the need to sweep your hand up or down the louvers to achieve complete closure, providing you with ease of use and functionality.
What is the Quick Align™ feature?
The Quick Align™ feature offers five preset louver positions that enable you to precisely align all your shutters’ louvers from panel to panel. As the louvers are rotated, you'll feel a very subtle stop at the desired angle, making it easy to position louvers consistently across multiple shutters for a clean, harmonious look at your window.
What louver sizes do you offer?
Choose between 3 different louver sizes: 2 1/2", 3 1/2", or 4 1/2". The largest will provide you the largest view-through.
Do you offer a warranty on your wood shutters?
We stand behind all our products. We offer a Love It Guarantee, Limited Lifetime Warranty, and Hunter Douglas Right Choice Promise, which provides a 100% satisfaction guarantee.
We pride ourselves on providing high-quality products and expert design services… all to bring our customers the best possible experience. Know that we’re here for you every step of the way. It makes sense to want a good deal, but in this industry, “deals” are rarely what they look like.
If it’s half the price, it’s half the quality. They just don’t say it that way.
Different fabrics. Different construction. Hidden plastic parts that will break. And no help when they do!
That’s the part no one puts in the quote, but it always shows in the final result.
At Drapery Street, we approach it differently. We start with your space, your lifestyle, your architecture, and how you actually want the home to feel and function.
Good design doesn’t start with a discount. It starts with direction.

Good times today at the @christamore_house_guild Book & Author Benefit Luncheon! A wonderful cause and it also gave us the opportunity to check on the draperies we made for the @indianaroofballroom 🤍

Obsessed with this cozy little window nook with wraparound sheers in @shawnjohnson & @andrewdeast bedroom. Ideal for morning coffee or a little “mom’s unavailable” moment.

When you’re building a home, planning your window treatments well before drywall goes up makes all the difference.
Think ahead:
• Pre-wire for automated shades (even if you don’t install them yet)
• Design pockets for recessed shades
• Make sure your window depth actually fits the look you want
Hardwired shades give you the cleanest, most seamless result, and once drywall goes up that opportunity is gone. Cutting into brand new walls later is not ideal.
Even if automation isn’t on your list right now, pre-wiring keeps the door open.
Future you will be glad you did.

The best window treatments are the ones you never have to think about, anticipating your needs and looking good while they do it.

They can kiss the floor, puddle, or float a teeny bit above it, but your drapes shouldn’t look like they’re waiting on a flood.
