The Benefit of Mock Shades

There are certain areas in a home where long draperies are not appropriate, and traditional blinds or shades just don’t fit. However, that doesn’t mean that these windows can’t have some kind of embellishment! Mock shades are one of several different types of window shades that add a touch of beauty to the top of a window, without sacrificing the light or your view. Mock shades can also be used over blinds, shades, or drapery panels for an extra touch of style.

If you have found a bold print that you love, but feel that a full drape would be too overpowering, a mock shade is a great choice. We love this gorgeous Greek key patterned shade from our recent Indianapolis Home-A-Rama project. Mock shades also work well over sinks and on smaller windows.

Mock shades can be accented with the same stylish details that we use with our draperies. This mock shade is accented with an intricate braided trim that gives it an elegant touch. This small but beautiful detail keeps the neutral shade from blending into the room.

Mock shades are also a great way to incorporate an accent color into a room. This mock shade blends brown and turquoise for a look that really stands out against the light-colored walls.
